Documentary Photography

Here’s a write up, the link to a digital magazine I made on issuu.com and a link to a YouTube video where I talk about a project work based on Documentary photograph.

My project work is based on Documentary photography. Firstly, I will like to explain what Documentary Photography is. Documentary photography is a form of photography used to chronicle events or anything both significant or relevant. Also, Documentary photography tells stories through faces and emotions. Documentary Photography is not like studio or model photography where the poses can be choreographed. In Documentary photography, you shoot as the events or action happens.

Given this project work based on documentary photography, it was time to execute it. Since the pandemic and school closed and the lockdown also, I haven’t really been up to anything. Just basically home with my little sister and mum. I wake up, eat something, do house chores, watch tv or a series on the laptop, do some TikTok’s and then go to sleep and the next day the cycle repeats itself. So If you ask if I had a concept well I don’t think I really did. One day I woke up and decided to start with my project work. Well so I woke up and did the usual that is, eat something for breakfast, tidy around, empty the trash and then a friend said he was coming over so I could escort him to Villaggio and then I said yes I will, because why not? I needed people and colors involved in my work. After heading to and fro Villaggio, again some friends said they were going to the beach so I decided to tag along making my project work more interesting. I did go to the beach with them and came back home to finish my previous project exams, , had a late night snack, played with my camera by taking pictures of the chandelier in the hall and then went to bed.

In taking these photos, I used my phone which is an iPhone 7plus and then also used my ring light tripod stand. So I could set timers and all. After getting my images I used Adobe Lightroom on my phone to edit some of the pictures. I decided to put the images in illustrator which I did but was later facing problems with exporting to pdf. So I used PowerPoint. I opened a blank page on PowerPoint and clicked on insert and on the far end of the right, I clicked on page layout and customized it to A4, portrait form. With all the work done on illustrator, all I did was copy the images from illustrator into PowerPoint and then saved them as pdf.
